For thousands of years, Chinese herbs have remained as a main resource for treating disease and illness in Chinese Traditional medicine. It has played an important role both in health care for the community as well as helping the Chinese race multiply from generations to generations.

Through extensive trials and testing’s by many herbalists in the long history, the discovery and application of Chinese herbs has come a long way to become what it is today – Traditional Chinese Medical Science (中国传统医学) & Science of Chinese Medicine Material (中药药材学).

During the long history of evolution, many renowned physicians had left behind records and great masterpieces of their researches which become the pride of the Chinese. Just to name a few, The Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic (神农本草经) which dates back to the 2nd century, was one of the earliest books ever found on Chinese Medicine. Recorded in the books are over 300 kinds of animals, plants, and minerals used for medication. The book “New Editions On Herbs” (新修草本Tang Materia Medical) written in the 7th century (the Tang Dynasty) too contributed significantly to the medical world. Then, in 16th century there was the book on “Compendium of Materia Medical” (本草纲目) by Lee Shi Zhen (李时珍 1519-1593 A.D. i.e. during Ming Dynasty) who devoted his entire life in the research and studies on herbs.

During the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911 A.D.), a famous physician Zhao Xue-Min (赵学敏 1719-1805 A.D.) further enriched the historical treasures on Chinese herbs with his contribution of the book called “Supplement to Compendium of Materia Medical” (本草纲目拾遗).
